Updates as Storm Eunice hits the North West

An amber weather warning is in place across Merseyside and the North West

The advice is to stay indoors as much as possible today, as storm Eunice hits Merseyside and the North West.

An amber weather warning's in place meaning there's the chance of a danger to life due to flying debris - and its likely that homes and power lines will be damaged.

New Brighton has been battered by Storm Eunice , with an amber warning in place till 9pm tonight.

The MET Office has issued this advice:

TRAVEL

Merseyrail and Northern have both put out messages asking people not to travel, and warning there'll be significant disruption to services throughout the day.

Mersey ferries have said they aren't running until further notice.

SCHOOLS

If you're heading out on the school run this morning then it's worth double checking before you brave the elements.

Some have decided to close, including Prenton High School, while others Like Overchurch Primary are encouraging parents to pick their kids up early this afternoon.

Surge forecasts now show a 1.4m surge for Friday’s 12:26pm tide giving an overall tide height of 10.7m. This forecast, along with the current predictions that storm Eunice will bring gusts of up to 75mph, mean conditions are similar to December 2013 and will likely cause SEVERE overtopping. It is possible promenades could be affected up to three hours before and after high tide.

Areas on the Wirral most likely to be affected will be:

South Parade, West Kirby,

North Parade, Hoylake,

Meols Parade, Meols,

Kings Parade and Ian Fraser Walk, New Brighton,

Mersey River Wall, New Brighton to Seacombe,

Woodside Business Park, Birkenhead,

The Dell, New Ferry.
