Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter confirm Valentine's Day wedding
They tie the knot on the Isle of Wight
Following widespread reports over the weekend, Benedict Cumberbatch’s spokeswoman has confirmed that the Oscar nominated actor married Sophie Hunter on Valentine’s Day.
Describing the occasion as a “magical day”, Benedict’s representative Karon Maskill said the highly intimate ceremony on the Isle of Wight was attended by close friends and family.
Guests were rumoured to include Cumberbatch’s Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman and Avengers actor Tom Hiddleston.
38-year-old Benedict met theatre director Sophie, 36, when they appeared in the 2009 movie Burlesque Fairytales.
They began dating in summer 2014 and announced their engagement in November when Benedict posted a brief notice in the Forthcoming Marriages section of The Times newspaper.
Last month, the happy couple confirmed they are expecting their first child together.
Benedict has previously made no secret of the fact that he wants to be a dad telling The Guardian in 2011 he’s been broody “for ever.”
"Maybe it's because I was an only child, but I've always wanted kids,” he said. “I've realised now that the reality of children is you have to be in the right place with the right person."
Benedict split with fashion designer Anna Jones after a two-year romance in 2012. He previously dated screenwriter Olivia Poulet for a decade.
