Women across Lincolnshire and Newark are being encouraged to start playing golf

It's as new research by England golf has shown that over a third of women would like to spend more time playing sport, with golf seen as one of the least male-dominated.

It comes ahead of 'Get into golf week', which is encouraging as many women as possible to give the game a go.

We've been speaking to Caroline Grant from Lincolnshire who's a keen golfer.

She believes that Golf saved her from a dark space when her marriage collapsed.

Something like golf is going to connect you to lots of new people

"After my divorce, I found myself almost a new golfer again” Caroline told us.

“I had to find what brought me joy again."

"What I enjoyed doing, and I had to also step out on the golf course on my own, without my Husband who I was used to playing with”

“I think sometimes when you go through a divorce, you can lose friends throughout being married and you maybe don't have as big a network anymore."

"So again, something like golf is going to connect you to lots of new people”.

"It reinvigorated my love for golf."

"Also it gave me somewhere to escape to in really difficult times."

There's no discrimination here and it truly is a game for all

"I was going through something quite tough - that's what golf does for you."

Ben White, a spokesperson from England Golf believes it is a sport for everyone should try.

“Golf is very inclusive. It is a game for everybody, and if you don't go out on the golf course and you sit in a driving range or where you go like mini golf, you can be regarded as a golfer. "

"There's no discrimination here, and it truly is a game for all.”

“There's a heavy focus on the female participation side throughout the week to try and counter the dated view that golf is predominantly a male dominated sport.”
