An animal charity operating across Lincolnshire and Newark says it's worrying how many animals are being attacked with weapons in Lincolnshire,
The RSPCA recorded 370 reports of attacks involving things like air rifles and catapults across the country last year - that's up from 300 in 2022.
Earlier this week we told you how a 10 month old puppy was found in Boston which had been shot with a crossbow
Geoff Edmond is the Lead Wildlife Officer and says they often find them injured and suffering:
"This is people deliberately targeting animals causing horrific suffering."
No one should be taking satisfaction from harming or injuring an animal
"We're working with Police, particularly on the catapult issue, and they're seeing instances where animals and particularly wildlife are being found injured, and just left, and the suffering they go through is dreadful. It's heart-breaking for us on the front line."
He added that this is unnecessary:
"This just has to stop. It's just so, so unnecessary, and for us and the Inspector on the front line, it's just so hard to have to deal with."
"No one should be taking satisfaction from harming or injuring an animal, sometimes killing it, sometimes leaving it suffering horrifically so it just has to stop."
Things the charity are urging the public to do includes being vigilant, and reporting instances to Police.
