We speak to a Grantham company about apprenticeships as GCSE students consider their next move
Grades are out today
Nervous students across Lincolnshire and Newark are joining others from around the country in finding out their GCSE results this morning.
Grading's expected to return to pre-pandemic levels after seeing a rise in top marks over the past five years.
There's an increase in the number of 16 year olds which could mean more competition for 6th form and college places.
Some will do an apprenticeship
I'd recognise that as effort and commitment to the business
We've spoken to a Grantham company about that
Managing director Jamie Clare from Iconic engineering solutions told us: "I'm looking for those people who will get out of bed and will show up regardless".
"I'd recognise that as effort and commitment to the business and they're committed to their apprenticeship ."
"If they get stuff on the CV that reflects that - that's perfect."
He advises: "Don't be afraid of having a really wild goal because having something that's way out there will drag them along."
At 16 I left school - straight into an apprenticeship and I never looked back
"They might not ever get there but they'll end up somewhere really good."
"The advantage for the student is if you're wired up more towards being a "hands on" person or you have that more "building with lego" kind of brain - you get to practice what you're learning on a regular basis."
"You're straight into a working environment."
"It helps massively with things like social skills."
"When I left school I wouldn't say boo to a goose - I was really quite timid and quiet."
"16 I left school - straight into an apprenticeship and I never looked back."
