Warning for homeowners across Lincolnshire and Newark who were impacted by flooding
They're being told to take precautions with future flooding said to be very likely
Homeowners across Lincolnshire and Newark who are at risk of flooding are being warned they need to take prevention measures with experts predicting extreme weather events are becoming ever more likely.
Fire services in Lincolnshire have told us they're preparing to have to deal with flooding more often.
We've been speaking to Lincolnshire flood victim Jonathan Sheppard.
His home and garden were destroyed following Storm Babet.
He told us: "Once it happens it doesn't go - we will constantly check the river levels that are local to us."
"Ours happened in October but we had record rainfall in February too - so that threat of floods hasn't gone away. "
For me it's all about protecting your house - then how your garden can help
We asked about what kind of measures could be taken.
"My raised bed area had diverted what was quite a strong flowing stream - slowed the flow in a way from the house taking it all round the plot."
"That kind of landscaping really helps to stem the flow. "
"For me it's all about protecting your house - then how your garden can help."
"Thinking about doing a few more raised beds areas - buying these things called gabions - which are metal cages that you can fill with either stones or wood."
"One thing I think people need to do is discover what their flood level is."
"Then there are things I think you can do about making your garden just a little bit more resilient."
"It's about choosing the right plant for the right place."
"If your garden is likely to be flooded choose the right plant so they're more resilient and robust".
