Three more North East Lincolnshire schools will have CCTV enforcement cameras to stop and deter parents from unsafe and illegal parking outside.

The council scheme has so far been run at seven schools across the borough, beginning with Signhills Academy, Cleethorpes. In April to June, 236 fines were issued across those schools.

Three more schools in Grimsby will be added to the CCTV list before the start of the new school term next month. It comes as a senior councillor claimed in one rare case, a woman has been issued with a fine 16 times for stopping illegally outside a CCTV-enforced school.

The new schools that will get the CCTV enforcement are Macaulay Primary Academy, Ormiston South Parade Academy, and Lisle Marsden C Of E Primary Academy.

Cllr Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, brought up the CCTV enforcement rollout while talking about parking issues in the ward he represents, Scartho. Parking restrictions in a section of Louth Road in Scartho are proposed to be eased.

He stated Lisle Marsden and another school would shortly get the CCTV. Cllr Shepherd also said the results for Scartho Junior, one of the more recent additions, were “really encouraging”, with drivers changing their behaviour.

“We will continue to rollout the civil enforcement outside of the schools.” All new schools will also automatically get the CCTV installed – this includes the planned new Scartho and Waltham primaries.

Cllr Shepherd also shared an extraordinary case in the CCTV enforcement of illegal parking. “We have had one individual at a school who’s been given 16 parking tickets.” He added the woman’s attitude was their husband would pay for it. He did emphasise though “that’s a rarity” in terms of attitude to the scheme.

The trio of schools will join the following seven in having CCTV enforcement: Old Clee Primary Academy; Stanford Junior and Infant School; Scartho Junior Academy; Signhills Academy; Waltham Leas Primary Academy; Queen Mary Avenue Infant and Nursery School; Welholme Academy.
