Newly-unveiled plans for a bypass around Barton would see traffic completely avoid the town centre.

The route would directly connect the A15 with the A1077 near Wren Kitchens in a major boost for local commuters.

Hundreds of residents have been consulted on the long-awaited route.

It would see a new road created and several miles of highway receive major upgrades.

The proposal would see motorists on the A15 turn onto the B0216, which would be significantly improved, and carry onto Caistor Road.

A new stretch would then be created from the junction with Burnham Road to the existing roundabout with Falkland Way.

Over 700 local residents were consulted on the plans over the last few years, with 62 per cent saying this route was their preferred option.

The route will be used to launch a bid for Levelling Up Funding from the government in the next round in the spring.

A £250,000 feasibility study will be undertaken by North Lincolnshire Council now to allow the project to continue quickly.

If the funding bid is approved, it is hoped that work will begin this year.

The route will enable HGVs from Wren Kitchens and other large businesses to access the A15 without needing to travel through Barton’s town centre.

The volume of traffic passing through has been a major concern for residents.

A report into the consultation published recently says: “There is an overwhelming agreement amongst consultees that a link road is needed, and would be hugely beneficial to Barton. It is the actual route that the current proposal takes that is the contention.

“Whilst there is a lot of support for a Barton link road due to the expansion of Wren Kitchens and subsequent increase of HGV vehicles, there is evident concern regarding the proximity of the proposed route to residential housing for several reasons.”
