Plans for a huge £300 million pound eco friendly power plant at Stallingborough near Grimsby have been given the go ahead by the Business Secretary.

The operation will produce energy from waste significantly reducing the amount of rubbish being taken to landfill which will cut emissions.

Landfill is a substantial emitter of methane gas which contributes to climate change; this energy from waste recovery solution will reduce the UK’s carbon footprint and further the path to achieving the Net Zero ambition.

Additionally, the new Energy Centre will have a gross output capacity of up to 95 megawatts and be capable of supplying the electricity needs of nearly 100,000 homes

There'll be 600 temporary construction jobs and 55 permanent positions.

James Crankshaw, Head of Business Development at EPUKI, said:

“We are delighted with the Secretary of State’s decision. This new Energy Centre will help to play a key role in supporting the path to Net Zero by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, supporting the local economy and contributing to the security of electricity supplies nationally”.
