A suspected homemade petrol bomb has been discovered at the former RAF Scampton site.
Lincolnshire Police unveiled the discovery near the external fence line late on Thursday, October 5.
Superintendent Lee Pache said: “We are investigating the discovery of a suspected homemade petrol bomb found intact near to the former RAF Scampton external fence line overnight on Thursday (5 October).
“Our enquiries into how it got there, and who is responsible continue, and I would ask anyone with information to come forward by calling 101.
“We recognise that this will be concerning to the local community, and want to assure you that we are giving this the attention it needs, and our officers will be on patrol in the area over the weekend.
“We’re liaising with the Home Office, which owns and operates the site as part of our investigation.”
A Home Office spokesperson added: “We are liaising with partners, including Lincolnshire police, as they investigate this matter. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
The site is under scrutiny from the public as it's under review to become housing for asylum seekers.
It was suspected asylum seekers could arrive at the site on Monday but the Home Office have denied that and claimed "reports are inaccurate".
West Lindsey District Council claimed work's continuing at the base - despite a stop notice being issued.
Again - the Home Office has denied this, but says military bases form a key part of its immigration plans.
