A council-backed organisation which helps people quit smoking say people who seek professional help are five times more likely to break the habit.

One You Lincolnshire offer a free 12-week stop smoking programme and are encouraging people to use it as Stoptober approaches its final week.

Parts of Lincolnshire have some of the highest percentages of adult smokers in the UK, and the county recorded a 2.7% increase in smoking this year since 2021, according to the NHS.

Theresa Shortland, the organisation's Smoking Cessation Lead, says that professional help is advised when trying to quit smoking.

"It can be a big decision to make that change but it is an addiction so it's always recommended to seek support to do so."

Ms. Shortland says people should not hesitate to look to One You Lincolnshire for assistance in quitting smoking.

"It's completely judgement-free so you've got nothing to lose by accessing that support.

"Support is going to be there for you every step of the way and it's free so you will see benefits to your health and your finances."

Those who wish to quit smoking are encouraged to visit One You Lincolnshire's website for advice.
