A staff member at a shop in Grimsby has reportedly had petrol thrown at them before being threatened with a knife and a lighter.

Officers were called out to Beechwood Avenue around 6.30am (9th Jan) to reports of a robbery.

Police say they are taking the incident seriously and officers will be in the area carrying out investigations

The man is described as in his forties and was wearing a grey coloured face covering, light grey hooded zip-up jacket, dark trousers with a stripe down the sides, black trainers with a white sole and black gloves.

Leading the investigation, Detective Inspector Darren Gray said:

“I understand that an incident of this nature may cause some concern among the local community, and I want to offer my reassurance that we are taking it incredibly seriously.

“Those in the local area can expect to see officers in the community today carrying out enquiries and offering reassurance and I would encourage anyone with concerns to please speak to them.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the robbery, or has any information that may assist our investigations, to please get in touch.”
