A seal has been rescued in Cleethorpes, after it was found below a stretch of eroding coastline.

Rescuers say he was surrounded by sharp wood and brambles, and could have injured itself it if tried to get back to the water without help.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue helped the seal out, then on advice from a marine medic, put him back on the beach to go back into the tide.

This was partially due to sanctuaries being closed for Christmas day.

On Facebook, Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue added: 'As the tide is in at 9pm we expect to see the seal travel back into the water but come to rest again in the morning.

'As a precaution, if you’re walking your dog around the Humberstone Fitties, where possible, keep it on a leash or keep a close eye out as seals can have a very nasty bite!

'Please do not attempt to push it back to the water as seals need to rest and do not get too close. Feel free to send us a message if you have any concerns.'
