Scunthorpe United: Owner backs manager Jimmy Dean
It's as owner David Hilton announced major cutbacks including redundancies
Scunthorpe United's owner says he'll continue to back manager Jimmy Dean even if they're relegated from the National League.
He joined the Iron back in January following the takeover of the club.
Yesterday David Hilton announced major cutbacks including redundancies.
However he's pledged to fund development in the longer term including a new training ground.
He says Dean needs more time:
"Jimmy has my full backing. When he came in, I told him we do what we do this year. We try our best.
"And if it doesn't work, we use it as a learning curve and come back stronger next season.
"I said when I first came in, the very first thing that hit me in the face is that it's still run like a championship football club.
"The playing budget in any club whether it's Manchester City, Ilkeston Town, it doesn't matter who it is - the playing budget at any club should should be at least two thirds of your outgoing staffing budget. And quite simply this is less than 30 per cent".
