Scunthorpe United Chairman says club is up for sale
David Hilton took on the club in January
Scunthorpe United's owner David Hilton has revealed the club is up for sale.
He took over the Iron in January, replacing Peter Swann who had a ten year period in charge of the club.
The 2022/2023 season was a difficult one and saw the club relegated from the National League after their 2-nil defeat at home to Oldham to the National League North where they currently sit second in the table.
In a long statement released this evening David Hilton says:
"I will confirm that the club is now being made available to purchase to the right people.
"My offer to sell the club will remain in place indefinitely, and we will see what the future holds.
"In the meantime, myself and my team will continue to work tirelessly to bring you success and eradicate all of the ongoing issues as quickly as we can.
"Your club will be unaffected on the field, and I will always look for us to be strong at whatever level we play at."
Also in the statement Mr Hilton goes into the financial situation of the club in some detail, confirming that today a winding up petition has been issued. He goes on to say:
"Unfortunately, there will be a further winding-up petition issued imminently by the HMRC however please do not be concerned. I know that is hard but I will pay the petitions in full and continue to work through the clubs remaining debt.
"At my request last Friday, Keith Waters has offered his resignation and will be removed from our Board of Directors immediately. The remainder of the board are committed to the club."
Mr Hilton also thanked people for their support over the last week adding it has helped him to make some difficult decisions.
