A man from Scunthorpe has been handed a life sentence for the murder of a Grimsby man.

Two other men have also been sentenced in connection with the fatal stabbing of Jack Howes.

Kian Feve aged 22, of Southfield Road in Scunthorpe, Robert Wattam, 23 of Broughton and Darren Feve, 55 of Southfield Road in Scunthorpe, were all charged in connection with the murder of Jack Howes in March 2023.

All three entered a not guilty plea following an appearance at Hull Crown Court and a trial started in November.

Following a two-week trial, on Thursday 7th December, a jury returned a guilty verdict and Kian Feve was convicted of Jack’s murder, alongside Wattam who was found guilty of manslaughter, and Darren Feve who was found guilty of perverting the course of justice in connection to the fatal stabbing.

Appearing at Hull Crown Court today, Monday 8 January, Kian Feve received a life sentence with a minimum term of 22-years, and Robert Wattam was sentenced to a total of 15-years in prison.

Darren Feve received a one-year suspended sentence with a requirement to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work.

On Monday 20th March Emergency services received a call reporting a man was laid on the ground on Macaulay Way following an altercation between a group of men.

Paramedics discovered 29-year-old Jack Howes with multiple stab wounds to his chest and stomach, he was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) Detective Superintendent Nikki Burnett, leading the investigation into Jack’s murder, said:

“Firstly, I would like to commend Jack’s family who have shown incredible strength throughout the entirety of the investigation.

“Whilst the sentences imposed cannot bring Jack back, I really hope that this provides his loved ones with a sense of comfort in knowing that the men responsible for Jack’s death are now behind bars and unable to harm anyone else.

“An altercation ensued between Jack, Kian Feve and Wattam, where Jack was subjected to a horrific attack, which sadly led to him sustaining a fatal stab wound. Making no attempt to help Jack, both Kian Feve and Wattam fled the scene leaving him for dead in the street.

“The unforgiveable actions of Kian Feve and Robert Wattam resulted in Jack, a 29-year-old man, losing his life.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues who were involved in this investigation, in particular the Major Crime Team, for their dedication and hard work in building a strong case against Kian Feve, Wattam and Darren Feve, and the public for their assistance in helping us secure justice for Jack.”

Speaking of their loss, Jack’s family said: “Jack was adored and loved by his family and his loss has left us all completely devastated. We miss him every day. Our hearts are forever broken, and no sentence can bring Jack back.

“We would like to thank all of those within Humberside Police and everyone else who contributed to bringing those responsible to justice.”
