So Grimsby Town have failed to become the first side from the top three divisions ever to reach the FA cup semi final.

It follows yesterday's defeat at Brighton.

However reaction was still positive after the game.

I don't know if I'll see this again in my lifetime

We spoke to Mariners fans leaving the match.

They told us: "All the fans are behind the players, we appreciate what they've done, it was a massive effort."

"Really proud of the team - I don't know if I'll see this again in my lifetime to be honest."

Another said "I had to be here, when your team gets to the FA cup quarter final, first time in 84 years."

"You had to be here no matter what the result".

We did our best but it wasn't to be

One commented: "We've gone so far, beaten 5 teams above us so it was more than we thought was going to happen".

The mood was summed up by this fan: "Just happy to be here to be honest, never expected to get this far just a good day out, shame about the result but proud of the team - there's always next year."

Other comments included: " We put a fight up - we did our best but it wasn't to be."

"It was nice to see the Brighton fans clapping us at the end of the game so fair play to them."

Town manager Paul Hurst gave us his reaction afterwards.

I hope it's something they look back on in years to come

He said: "It's extremely unusual to lose a game 5 nil and almost have fans celebrating and cheering like we'd won the game."

"I've said to a few people I'm not quite sure what would have happened if we'd won."

"They just seemed to get louder and louder as the game went on."

"It's a really nice moment at the end for the players, myself and the staff to see that togetherness."

"I hope it's something they look back on in years to come and say they were here."

"Not the result we wanted but still a special day for the football club."
