50-thousand workers have begun the biggest rail strike in decades - bringing most of the network to a standstill.

Just a fifth of the normal number of trains will run today - although about half of lines will have no services at all.

The row's about pay, conditions and jobs - and there'll be further walkouts on Thursday and Saturday.

We've been finding out the impact on rail services across Lincolnshire and Newark.

Across Lincolnshire and Newark - East Midlands Railway services will be reduced until Sunday with just one train per hour running in each direction on most routes - the operator usually runs trains to places like Barton on Humber, Market Rasen and Skegness

LNER which covers Lincoln, Newark and Grantham says under half (38 percent) of their usual services will go ahead with any trains that run likely to be very busy

TransPennine Express which usually serves places like Cleethorpes says there will be a "significant reduction in available services" on strike days.

Yesterday we spoke to rail users in Newark about the strikes.

They told us: "For people going away on holiday we can't cancel it and now it's spoiled our holiday because we don't know how we're going to get back."

Another woman told us "I don't drive and I get the train to Nottingham and I'm having to find different ways of getting to work."

"My boyfriend will either have to take me or I'll have to get other transport down."

"It's a bit frustrating, I understand why they're striking but it's affecting me."

A third passenger said "I'm struggling to get to work, my colleagues having to drive from Newark to where I live in Market Rasen to pick me up and bring me in."
