A major project for 400 new homes is being prepared for northern Lincolnshire near the A15, with the application seeking to significantly expand Barton-upon-Humber. The proposed location is a 25-hectare site south of Horkstow Road.

The development would incorporate a range of different property sizes, along with public open spaces, new footpaths, wetland areas, wildlife habitats and local road links.

The Banks Group, who are behind the plans, have opened a formal consultation with local residents and businesses before the designs are formally submitted.

They say it will offer much-needed housing for the area.

A Covid-safe consultation will also be taking place at a later date.

Jeannie Raine, community relations manager at The Banks Group, said: “There is a clear and increasingly pressing need across the UK to increase the available supply of quality homes, including in North Lincolnshire, and we firmly believe that people should have the opportunity to live in the places where they wish to live.

“At Barton-upon-Humber, in consultation with the local community, we want to design a development that brings a range of economic, employment, environmental, supply chain and social benefits to the area, and we feel that the location is wholly suitable for the type of development we have in mind.

“Meaningful local consultation is an essential part of all our developments, and we’re doing everything we can during the current pandemic to make sure as much information as possible is available about our plans and that all interested parties have the opportunity to express their views.

“Our initial survey is designed to help us gather local people’s views including the sorts of community, environmental and transport enhancements they would like to see delivered through the development.

“The feedback gained from it, and from the events we’re planning, will then be factored into the final planning application that we submit to North Lincolnshire Council.”

The full plan is expected to be made later this year.

The plans come as Barton is considering a much-needed relief road, which would join the A15 close to the housing site.
