Preparations underway for Scunthorpe Pride event
It'll take place in Church Square in August
Preparations are well underway for Scunthorpe's first ever pride which take place in August.
The team at 'Scunny LGBT's' wanted to bring the all inclusive event to the town to raise awareness of the LGBT plus community.
Church Square will host the event.
We've been speaking to Rebekah Stevens the site manager:
We want it to be family friendly
She told us: "We just want to end discrimination against everybody who's part of the community."
"That's why the actual event itself will be family friendly, those first 2 hours will be focused on having something there for the children."
"Unless you're sort of in it, you're not aware of it."
"The LGBTQ plus society, they do a social on a Sunday at the Black Door - that sometimes gets some pretty good footfall."
"We try and promote that as much as possible because that's for anyone and everyone to come along and have a chat and a coffee."
Overall comments and reaction have been overwhelmingly positive
"The work everyone's put in has been unbelievable, just to get this years Pride on the board."
"Hopefully once we've done this years that will be it and it'll be a yearly annual celebration."
"So far the reaction has been really positive, we've done really well with that."
"There's been a few negative comments here and there but they're by the by, it's a very small minority."
"Overall the comments and reaction has been just overwhelmingly positive and everyone's really excited for it."
