Plans have been revealed for a 20 million road bridge in Lincoln.

The City of Lincoln Council along with Lincoln's MP Karl McCartney will apply for Government funding for the bridge which will link the western growth corridor development to Tritton road.

It's designed to reduce congestion

Now they're asking for locals to have their say during a consultation event.

Subject to a successful bid, the £20 million from the Government’s Levelling Up Round Two programme would see the bridge completed by March 2025, with work anticipated to start at the end of 2023/beginning of 2024.

The project would attract traffic onto the spine road through the development, above the trainlines and onto Tritton Road, bypassing the existing crossing and alleviating congestion in the area.

We spoke to Karl McCartney about the project.

He told us: "I'm pragmatic, if I didn't do this, lend it my support, if I didn't help with this application I think the development would take place but they'd be no bridge."

"The traffic congestion in the western part of the city - it's not going to get any better and that's not an option as far as I'm concerned."

Leader of the City of Lincoln Council Ric Metcalfe told us:

"It is literally an extension of Lincoln but it does require some essential bits of infrastructure to make sure we don't make traffic congestion any worse and hopefully we reduce traffic congestion."

Now, the city council is seeking resident support to accompany the bid documentation.

They say people can email wgc@lincoln.gov.uk by midday on 28 June with their thoughts.
