The company behind plans for a nuclear waste site near Mablethorpe say locals will have the final say on the project.
Yesterday, a working group was formed to discuss the possibility of a site on the former Theddlethorpe gas terminal.
RWM's Head of Siting, Steve Reece told us "as a chartered engineer I'm very confident in the science we are following".
"I would be very confident having a facility next to where I live".
He also says local people will have a final say on whether they get such a facility or not.
The Theddlethorpe working group will look into whether the site is a suitable location for managing the disposal of radioactive waste.
The company says "it will be an initial area of focus for a possible surface reception facility with potential for the underground facilities to be located in the deep rock layers beyond the coastline."
Jon Collins, independent Chair of the Theddlethorpe Working Group, said: “It's
a project of national importance and it’s unique in that it can only proceed
with two things - a suitable site and a willing community”.
"Wherever the GDF is built, it could be a major boost to an area’s future prosperity,
skill base of its workforce, and unlock major investment such as infrastructure."
Mr Collins is a former Labour leader of Nottinghamshire county council.
He's vowing to listen to all members of the public whether they're for the plans, against or still deciding.
Many locals are unhappy however and are protesting against the proposals.
They argue it'll have a devastating impact on the environment and the local economy, which heavily relies on coastal tourism.
