They've done it!!

Boston United have secured promotion to the national league after an excellent win at Brackley Town in the national league north play off final.

FINAL SCORE: Brackley Town 1 Boston United 2

They stepped up and secured victory exactly when it mattered.

That means Boston United will be just one division down from the football league next season.

It's a magic moment for Pilgrim's fans who've seen their side upset the odds to secure promotion.

What a time to be a Boston United fan

The final whistle saw joyous scenes among the fans - not only at Brackley but also watching back at the Jakeman's stadium in Boston.

They sang "we are going up" - and so they are.

What a day - what a result and what a time to be a Boston United fan.

When the Pilgrims went behind on 34 minutes it must have brought back memories of two years ago.

Boston made the national league north play off final then.

They conceded the first goal to York and ended up losing 2 nil.

They got themselves ahead and managed to hold on

However today things were a little different.

Into first half injury time and the Pilgrims equalised with a goal from Keaton Ward to set up an exciting second period.

And on 58 minutes Boston got the break they were hoping for.

They were awarded a penalty with Jimmy Knowles stepping up to slot home the spotkick.

2-1 to Boston.

And the managed to hold on.

The final whistle couldn't come soon enough for fans but when it did it was a delicious moment and they celebrated the moment.

It's been a fantastic season.

Two penalty shootout wins set up today's final

Throughout the campaign Boston did well without ever looking like they'd be competing for automatic promotion.

But when it came to the play offs that's when they really showed what they can do.

A nil nil draw at Alfreton led to extra time and when the two sides still couldn't be separated penalties were needed.

And it was the Pilgrims who triumphed 5-4 on spotkicks.

We thought a trip to Scunthorpe United might be more difficult.

And there was a sense of deja vu with no goals in normal and extra time.

Here's to next season

Once again it was down to spotkicks and once again Boston ran out 5-4 winners.

That brought is to the final and a trip to Brackley Town.

And what a result.

Boston may have only finished 6th in the table but their performance in the play offs has made the difference.

Here's to next season.

And you never know this time next year they could even be looking at playing in league 2!
