The King's coronation celebrations continue today as many organisations across Lincolnshire and Newark are taking part in today's Big Help Out Event.

It's designed to be an introduction to volunteering.

Lincolnshire coast light railway in Skegness is involved.

Chris Bates volunteers there.

The Princess Royal has travelled on our railway

He spoke to us about what they'll be doing today and told us they do have a royal connection.

"In 2017 the Princess Royal came to visit the railway and travel on it and see our remarkable award winning work in conserving Lincolnshire's railway heritage."

"Specifically those narrow gauge railways which once transported potatoes and agricultural produce."

"I joined at Easter 1961, it's been a big influence on my life, it gave me a great career, it's given me wonderful friendships."

They just like to be part of something positive

"I've loved every second of being part of it and I still get a real thrill of being there."

"Most of our volunteers would not define themselves as being railway enthusiasts, they just like being part of something positive, friendly, healthy that achieves the remarkable acclaim of conserving this part of the country's heritage."
