Lincoln City are warning there could be more cases of fake football scouts targeting parents after one claimed to be from the club.

In one instance a young boy was apparently 'offered' a contract with the Imps - after the parents contacted the club they discovered this was not the case and the Police were alerted.

Liam Scully is the club's Chief Executive:

"We don't charge for any services. Parents shouldn't pay for that. It's just about sensible measures and controls.

"Most football clubs still have scouts out watching games but it's always done in communication with the club - either junior clubs or other set ups - but it's a always done with a controlled and professional structure behind it.

He say's it's important parents don't lower their guard:

"Because it's football and it's a desirable industry to be into it's important we don't lower our standards with regards to the thresholds we'd normally have with things like dropping our children off for childcare or anything else.

"I think it's just about being vigilant and using common sense".

Lincoln City say they don't use scouts that use social media to recruit players, and that any staff would never ask for payment in return for a trial.
