Over 50% of University of Lincoln students feel extremely unsafe in the city during the evening
A march is taking place later calling for an end to violence and sexual harassment on our streets
We can reveal over 50% of University of Lincoln students feel extremely unsafe in the city during the evening.
It comes as they march later as part of Reclaim the Night, demanding an end to violence and sexual harassment on our streets.
It's being organised by the University of Lincoln's Student Union as part of 16 Days of Activism to Prevent and Tackle Gender-Based violence.
Harriet Kennedy is the Vice President of Wellbeing and Community, she said it's extremely concerning that so many feel unsafe.
"They deserve to be protected and feel safe whilst being able to do any activities they want to do, whether that is going out and enjoying the nightlife, or even just walking back from the library.
"Students just deserve to feel safe in their city and their home."
Professor Libby John, Chair of the Women’s Safety Committee at the University of Lincoln, said solidarity is important.
“Everybody has the right to feel safe, whether on a night out in the city or whilst walking around our campus.
"We ask all men to sign the White Ribbon pledge and engage with 16 Days of Activism.
“Raising awareness about sexual violence in all of its forms is a priority for University and we fully support the Reclaim the Night movement, we thank the Student’s Union for shining a light on such an important topic.”
