Organisers of this years Stamford Burghley Horse Trials are remaining hopeful it can still take place.

Those in charge say health and safety is a priority, so if it does go ahead it may be on a smaller scale.

Event Director Liz Inman says they're cautiously optimistic:

"September is a long way away. The problem is events such as ours on green field sites need a lot of planning before before you start. And of course similar to so many large events we won't have any cancellation insurance for Covid. There's potential for great expenditure and if something happened at the last moment we have to consider that"

She continues " I think the dates that have been given are best case scenarios, an awful lot could happen between now and then. Our top priority has to be the health and safety of everybody all in the community. There's been so much devastation brought about by covid. So that really is very much our focus"

"I do think that people should expect a different type of horse trials this year. And it may well be that we have less trade stands, have fewer people at the event. But we aim to put on the very best event"
