Opposition parties put forward cost of living motion at Lincolnshire County Council
They want the ruling Conservative group to ask Boris Johnson
Opposition parties across Lincolnshire have joined calls for the Government to take urgent action on the cost of living crisis.
Today at Lincolnshire County Council's AGM Labour councillors and some independents will call for the ruling Conservative group to write to Boris Johnson asking him to take action to help people struggling with with rising prices.
We've spoken to Labour's Rick Metcalf who's leader of the City of Lincoln Council:
He says: "There are a lot of people really really struggling I see this in my surgeries."
"Every week people come in with increasing amounts of debt just to meet the essentials of life."
"People on Universal Credit were helped temporarily with a twenty pound uplift and that's the sort of thing the Government need to be thinking about."
"They need to get help to the very poorest people who really are suffering at the moment."
However the Government has defended itself.
Ministers say the have already taken action such as extra cash to help some with their energy bills and reducing fuel duty.
Yesterday the Chancellor Rishi Sunak said they were ready to tackle the cost of living crisis further and would help more when they could.
However he's warning the "next few months will be tough".
