North East Lincolnshire to hold a minutes silence for Ukraine
It's to mark the one-year anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of the country
People are being invited to take part in the National Minute’s silence across North East Lincolnshire.
It's to mark the one-year anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This will be commemorated by North East Lincolnshire Council on the main steps of Grimsby Town Hall on Friday 24 February at 11am, led by the Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Steve Beasant, the start, and finish of which will be marked by the ringing of the Town Hall Bell.
The Ukrainian flag will continue to fly at full mast at Grimsby Town Hall, and as a special commemoration of the day, two iconic buildings in the borough, Grimsby Minster and The Knoll in Cleethorpes, will be lit up in blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag for the evening to mark this poignant time.
Cllr Philip Jackson, leader of the council, said:
“What we are continuing to see in Ukraine is beyond many people’s comprehension and indeed experience.
“Over the least year, we’ve welcomed more than 80 Ukrainians to North East Lincolnshire, including several families and I would like to extend my thanks to the sponsors and others who have helped support our Ukrainian guests to settle in here in North East Lincolnshire.
“I am sure I speak for the whole of North East Lincolnshire when I say how the plight of the country’s people remain in our thoughts, hopes and prayers.”
