Newark MP to enter Conservative leadership race
Robert Jenrick is understood to have submitted papers
Newark's MP is to enter the race to replace Rishi Sunak as the next leader of the Conservative party.
Mr Jenrick is a former immigration minister who resigned after criticising some of Rishi Sunak's policies.
He's also a high profile figure in the party who often appears in the media doing the likes of TV interviews.
Now he wants to lead the Tories.
So far he's the third person who says they will stand.
Tom Tugendhat and James Cleverly are also in the running.
We have to bring our party together
The former Home Office minister's campaign manager, Danny Kruger MP, will this morning submit his nomination to Bob Blackman.
The form includes Mr Jenrick's proposer, seconder, and eight supporting MPs, Mr Jenrick's campaign team said.
Mr Kruger said: "To have any path back to government we must win back those voters we have lost, across the board but particularly to Reform.
"At the same time we have to bring our party together, united behind one set of coherent Conservative principles."
"The British people need to be convinced that we are the most responsible and competent party of government for us to have any chance of winning in 2029, especially when we know Labour are set to fail on so many important issues for our country.
"Rob Jenrick will do that. He has the energy, temperament and policy agenda to take on our rivals and lead us back to power in five years."
