Newark family say parents should know CPR after it saved their daughter
It comes as the British Heart Foundation says all parents need to know basic first aid skills
A Newark couple is urging all parents to learn basic first aid skills after CPR saved their daughter's life.
Poppy stopped breathing due to a seizure.
But having taken a course previously dad Adam was able to resuscitate her.
Today the British Heart foundation is highlighting the need for people to know CPR believing it could save many lives.
I'm just so grateful we went on the first aid course
Mum Katie told us watching her daughter was very frightening.
"I was an emotional wreck".
"Adam took her off - started checking her mouth then screamed at me to dial 999."
"To this day I don't know how I did it."
"I'm just so grateful we went on the first aid course because if she has another one I think I'll be more prepared ."
"Obviously it's a massive shock to see your baby unresponsive - not breathing - her lips were blue."
Adam told us:
Katie was screaming at me - Poppy's dead
"Katie was a nervous wreck and she was screaming and shouting at me but I just kept calm and screamed at Katie to call 999."
"I checked Poppy's mouth and then did rescue breaths and she started breathing."
"A fest response car was outside then."
"When it happened the next thing I knew was Katie's screaming at me - Poppy's dead."
"She was all white - her lips were blue."
"Then the training kicked in - I've never done CPR but it all kicked in."
"We just recommend as many people as possible to do a first aid course."
