A small business in Newark has lifted moods with a painted mural of the Queen on its shop front. The portrait rests on the shop front of Castlegate's Village Chic, painted in Blue, red and white to represent the monarchy, the stencil-like mural was painted on Friday, the day after the Queen's passing.

Village Chic, a furniture store in Newark has painted a mural dedicated to the Queen in light of her passing.

Painted the day after the Queen's death the portrait can be seen on the shop front of the business on Castlegate.

Coloured blue, red and white for her majesty, Laura Hill describes it as a mark of respect and appreciation:

"So the painting is a bit like a stencil-effect its an image of the queen in her later years and it was actually quite nerve-racking painting it just because I wanted it to look like her and to represent her but be respectful all at the same time.

"A little bit of pressure but I'm pleased with the result."

Laura has worked at the shop for around three or four years and the shop has only been around for nine.

She told us why the painting was in colour, rather than monochrome:

"The colours, so it's red white and blue which obviously are classic patriotic colours. We didnt go with black because we wanted to try and just celebrate the queen's life, not think too heavily about the sadness but be more celebratory."

Previously, the shop began placing displays in the windows, like poppies for Remembrance Day and other big occasions, but more recently they have decided that painting the front of the shop is a larger canvas, allowing more space for an eye-catching design.

Most notably, according to Laura, is the beach huts painted in conjunction with the Newark-on-Sea beach.
