New roads policing unit launched in Louth
It's as more resources are put into improving road safety in the county
A new roads policing unit is launching in Louth.
It comes shortly after a similar operation started in Grantham.
It's all part of a project putting more police resources into reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries on the county's roads.
The dedicated team will also aim to promote road safety, target criminals and support the county.
In the last 12 months, there have been nearly 3,000 collisions in the county, with a total of 1,391 taking place only in Lincoln and West Lindsey alone.
Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Jones spoke to us about the launch of the two new units.
He says; " There's no single answer (as to why so many collisions happen) but complacency maybe one."
"We all get used to that journey to work when we're sort of half thinking about what we're going to watch when we get home or what we'll do at work."
"We need to stay alert - just because that tight bend has been clear everynight doesn't mean it will be tonight.
We also spoke to PC Pete Wing from the specialist unit.
He said: "I was personally affected by friends who died in road traffic collisions."
"I just want to make the roads safer for myself, my family and for everyone out there."
"No one goes out there onto the roads and wants people to die."
"I'd like to think with more officers out there it's going to make the roads safer for everybody."
