A new project aimed at tackling loneliness - alongside the many other challenges of the menopause - will be launching later this week in Lincoln.

The Peri Meri Menopause Moments is an Every-One project, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

It's a six week programme taking a look at many topics including the symptoms, mental health impact, and medications relating to the menopause.

The project will also be taking place in Sleaford, Boston and Gainsborough through the year.

Paula Batchelor tells us how this was inspired by her own experiences:

“It is just amazing to think that 5 years ago I had an idea that might support those on their menopause journey, to now realise that dream... it hasn’t been an easy journey getting here and I don’t think it’s even perfect, but I do think it’s a great start and I want to identify and recognize all those that work and encourage menopause awareness and support across Lincolnshire as this can only enable people to identify what works for them, which is crucial... no one person is the same on their meno journey."

Following a successful application for Innovation Funds through the Mental Health and Wellbeing Community Investment Fund managed through Shine Lincolnshire, Paula ran a Peri Meri Menopause programme trial. he she says the impact it had on the women is "evidential", hence applying for further funding.

One programme participant said:

“Until I came to your class, which I think I should have done 10 years sooner, I don’t think I had any idea that there were so many symptoms to menopause. I was really really surprised. I couldn’t believe how many symptoms were on that list...it was quite scary.”

Another participant said:

“I feel back on track, it really helped me identify not only that I am not alone, but others in the room were feeling the same as me, but also that we are all different, what works for me wouldn’t work for anyone else.”

Meanwhile one other highlighted she no longer feels alone:

“I feel in control, I feel better, I know more about menopause now, the programme enabled me to find out facts about medication, about health and wellbeing and has given me the confidence to try things.”

Every-One is aiming to support the menopause journey through a variety of ways; individuals attending a programme delivered in their community; and by working with employers, but also by engaging and working with various organisations, professionals, holistic therapists and those that offer health and wellbeing partners to showcase the support and inform those that really need the work that is already out there across the county.

The programme ethos is to engage, encourage, support and inform with facts… they say there is so much out there around menopause, that it can be difficult to navigate and identify what might work for different people.

Every-One aims to ensure and encourage individuals to explore all the options and activities available to them, recognising that what works for one individual won’t work for another, how diet and exercise can support them, or how it might not, but ultimately giving people choices.

This six-week programme is delivered weekly over two-hour sessions and covers Symptoms, Mental Health, Medications, Health & Wellbeing Menopause Market, Holistic Therapies Menopause Market and What’s next?

The Lincoln programme starts on the 27th of June 2024 and Sleaford commences on the 2nd of July 2024.
