Heavy snow blankets Lincolnshire
The Beast from the East Strikes Back
Last updated 8th Feb 2021
Gritters across Lincolnshire have been working extra hard as they lay more than 2 thousand tonnes of grit salt on the county's roads.
More snow is due to fall this evening.
Our reporter Aaron Renfree braved the storm to tell us the latest:
People should only be travelling if it is an essential journey due to lockdown restrictions, but with the heavy snowfall this message is being emphasised.
Lincolnshire Police have already attended several collisions:
Dean Galacher the Force Control Room Inspector at Lincolnshire Police said:
"Demands been extremely busy coming into the control room today, involving various vehicles stranded or broken down.
"Picture across Lincolnshire is varied, but it seems east Lincolnshire has been hit the hardest this morning.
"If you have to go out, it is essential, then plan your route ahead, give plenty of time to complete your journey, so you're not rushing around, make sure your phone is charged, prepare and take essential items in case you break down like blankets and any medication."
Darrell Redford, the Network Resilience Manager at Lincolnshire County Council said:
"Looking ahead we are going to be very busy this week, this is not breaking until towards the end of the week, we are looking at another 4 or 5 days of cold temperatures.
"The snow will become less of an issue and it will be more -3 and-4, so this snow isn't going to disappear until probably early next week.
"It is strange that actually we want more traffic on the road when it snows because you want it to work it through, it doesn't help that we have less traffic but that's the nature of the situation we are in, we have done one or two extra runs because of that, and have laid well over 2 thousand tonnes of salt."
Our pets have been enjoying the snow though.
