Minister for skills visits Grimsby to hear about opportunities at Franklin College
It’s part of the 'levelling up scheme'
The minister for skills visited Grimsby today (3rd March) to hear out about the opportunities at Franklin College.
It’s part of the 'levelling up scheme' to help get more people into highly skilled, highly paid jobs.
Lia Nici, the MP for Great Grimsby has been showing him around - she said:
"It's fantastic to be able to showcase Grimsby in a positive light. Franklin College and Grimsby Institute are exceptional providers of further education. It's great for the minister to come here - speak to the teams, speak to the students and see Government policy in action"
"It's getting people to understand that there's a huge amount of opportunity. And there are some really exciting highly skilled and highly paid jobs that are not only already here but more are coming in the future"
Alex Burghart told us what’s at the top of his agenda for 'levelling up'
"Getting that dialogue between businesses and colleges and local Government to make sure that areas are providing students with the qualifications they need to get the skills that businesses in the local economy want"
"Brilliant to see all the things that are happening at Franklin. It's not just great work with 16-19 year olds. But it's work with adults who are trying to restart their careers and find new opportunities in the community"
