The Mass Vaccination Centre at Lincolnshire Showground will shut its doors today after over a year of constant operation.

The centre's closure will see it replaced with more localised walk in and pre booked vaccine services.

Rebecca Neno is the Director of Covid Vaccination Programmes for NHS Lincolnshire; she says that while this is positive news it doesn’t signal the end of the pandemic.

She told us: "I think we're in a very different place within the pandemic".

"Just like everyone else I want this to be over but what I would say is we're probably in a quieter part of the pandemic."

"I'm sure any of my health colleagues would say we're expecting an increase when we move into the winter."

"The showground near Lincoln has been absolutely phenomenal but now is the time to change the way we deliver that programme so the aim is we take the vaccinations closer to people to make them easier to access."

"This is what people have told us they want localised services so they don't have to travel".

"The site has served it's purpose but the sites we will roll out across the city and rural areas will just make it easier to access."

"Overall in Lincolnshire we've given out around 1.7 million vaccines within the programme.

Compared to other parts of the country the uptake has been phenomenal, the people of Lincolnshire have come forward for their vaccine."
