Police have made an arrest after reports a man was seen with a gun in Cleethorpes.

Concerns were raised following a sighting on the Promenade last night around 11pm.

Armed officers were called out.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent who remains in custody.

It's believed those involved were known to each other and a weapon has now been recovered

Detective Inspector Simon Duffield leading the investigation said:

“Whilst thankfully nobody sustained any injuries, I understand the concern and shock this will have caused local residents and those on the promenade.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation and our initial lines of enquiry lead us to believe this to be an incident between two individuals known to each other.

“A weapon has been recovered and officers will remain in the area conducting extensive lines of enquiry with scene guards currently in place on Market Street and Kingsway.

“I would encourage anyone who has any concerns or any information which they feel may help with our enquiries, to please speak to one of the officers who are in the area to provide reassurance.

“You can also contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 641 of 22 August.”
