Two dogs at a property that was ablaze near Louth potentially saved the lives of the family inside as they barked and managed to alert them to the danger.

The fire broke out in the early hours of this morning at the bungalow on Louth Road in North Cockerington.

It's after a gas cylinder exploded in a camper van with the resulting blaze spreading to the property.

The occupants escaped after being alerted by their German Shepherds.

Spencer Creek from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue says the dogs needed rescuing:

"We were able to get them out relatively quickly and get them back to their owners. The distress to the dogs was relatively minimal - think it was more the distress of the owners obviously that was quite anxious about the the condition the dogs would be in"

"Crews set about extinguishing the fire the best they could but also to try and rescue the dogs which were located at the rear of the property. Thankfully we were able to get the dogs out of the property and save their lives"

Crews from across the county eventually managed to bring it under control and rescued those inside as well as the two dogs.

It's understood the homeowners are now being given specialist support.

It's believed an electrical fault started the fire in a camper van which then spread to the bungalow.
