Lincolnshire Wildlife Park: Support online has kept us going through lockdown

It says, without help, it would have been forced to turn away animals in need of rehoming

"Without the social media and the assistance we’ve got I don’t think we’d be reopening with the facilitates we’ve got"

Lincolnshire Wildlife Park says, without turning to social media during the pandemic, it'd have had to make some very tough decisions.

It comes as zoos across the country prepare to re-open tomorrow,

Owners say 40% of staff would have been axed and they'd have been forced to turn away birds in need of rehoming.

But, the charity took the world by storm, in a series of Facebook lives which went viral - featuring swearing parrots, baby birds and ferocious tigers.

Owner Steve Nichols said peoples generosity has been truly incredible:

"Without the social media and the assistance we’ve got I don’t think we’d be reopening with the facilitates we’ve got.

"We’d have had to basically start from scratch again."

Steve said they were shocked to find £5,000 sent anonymously through the post.

"We don’t want people to do that, if they’re going to do it transfer it into the account, we don’t want these kind of sums of money coming through the post.

"But that’s what’s kept us going.

"We’ve been very fortunate people have genuinely followed what we do."
