Lincolnshire teachers call for more Covid safety measures in schools
It comes as Omicron cases continue to rise
Teachers in Lincolnshire are calling for more Covid safety measures in schools, as Omicron cases continue to rise.
The National Education Union is warning the Government that if action's not taken, the variant will disrupt teaching.
County Rep Chris Thomptson says it's a matter of urgency.
"If it spreads as quickly as everybody seems to suggest it is, then schools could be quite a major way of infecting the community.
"Staff are very anxious, very nervous, they regard themselves like the forgotten frontline.
"They're in close contact with 100s of people each day."
A Department for Education spokesperson said they're incredibly grateful to teachers and all education staff for their efforts to protect face-to-face education.
“The classroom is the very best place for children and young people’s development, and making sure children are learning face-to-face continues to be a priority.
“We have taken action that will help manage the Omicron variant, including asking older students and staff to wear face coverings in communal areas and asking secondary schools to offer on-site testing at the start of the spring term.
“We strongly encourage everyone to keep testing regularly and get their booster jabs as soon as possible."
