In Lincolnshire the Conservatives have easily retained control of the County Council, after the elections yesterday. They have won 54 out of a possible 70 seats.

There are some gains for independents and the Lib Dems but the Tories have continued their dominance with a similar share of the vote to last time.

The party’s final seat on Tattershall Castle was held by Councillor Tom Ashton.

The number is the same as the party went into the election with, however, down by four on the 2017 election results due to some party members leaving.

The final results also see the council made-up of:

Five Independents (up one)

Four Labour councillors (down two)

Three Liberal Democrats (up two)

Three South Holland Independents (new party – up three)

One Lincolnshire Independent (no change)

County Council Elections

On the result Leader of Lincolnshire County Council Martin Hill says: "we had our manifesto - and I think it's an endorsement of our policies and we do try and deliver policies that are suitable for Lincolnshire. We're pleased people have supported that".

The only crumb of comfort for Labour was the performance of former Lincoln MP Karen Lee who took a seat from the Tories by just two votes.

Meanwhile there were just 4 council seats in North Lincolnshire up for grabs this time around and they were all won by Conservatives gaining one of them from Labour.

In North East Lincolnshire council elections:

The Conservatives bolstered their strength with 8 gains out of 14 seats available. This means they now hold 31 seats up from 23.

The Conservatives took overall control of the Council in 2019. The result will be a big blow to the Labour party.

Meanwhile the Conservatives have secured a majority on Nottinghamshire county council.
