A women from Lincoln, who is still grieving after losing her mum to Covid-19 three weeks ago, is helping to protect people across the county from the virus.

Lorena Hauton originally applied to help at the vaccination centre as she's training to be a nurse in Nottingham and wanted to play her part in the pandemic.

She's now giving out jabs at the Lincolnshire Showground.

"It's really hard to grieve because there's so much sadness and anxiety around for everyone."

Sadly, she lost her mum to Covid three weeks ago:

"It's really hard to grieve because there's so much sadness and anxiety around for everyone, and it's really hard not being able to be with my brothers and sister and family when we really need to be together. Luckily we can connect by video calling, but it's not the same as being in the room with people who are going through what I'm going through.

"And sorting out all the official stuff over the phone, it can seem a bit cold, although it's no ones fault, it just feels a bit too clinical at times."

"Each person that I vaccinate, mum will be at the back of my mind."

"My role as a vaccinator is even more poignant now to me, because I have lost mum.

"The vaccination came too late for mum and many thousands more and that's really sad, but you have to look for positives in sadness, and it strives me to encourage people to get the vaccination when they get the call.

"Each person that I vaccinate mum will be at the back of my mind.

"It's the gift of life and we must grasp it with both hands and for me as a vaccinator it's an absolute honour to be able to do this for people.

"I would also encourage people to keep being safe and wearing your masks, because I wouldn't wish what our family are going through on anybody."

Meanwhile, the Lincolnshire CCG are reminding people that they should only come for a vaccine, if they have an appointment.

Martin Fahy the director of nursing at Lincolnshire CCG said:

"Local vaccination centres are being run by local GP practices, so they have everybody's contact details, they know who's registered.

"They'll be texting, they'll be calling, they'll be emailing, they'll get in touch with you and will book the appointment with you.

"Please don't ring the GP's to ask when your appointment will be, they will ring you.

"We will call you, don't call us, that's the message."
