Lincoln Sausage Festival is back
It's one of Lincolnshire's top foodie events, returning after two years of disruption
One of Lincolnshire's top foodie events is back, after two years of disruption the Lincoln Sausage Festival has made its return. This year has even more sizzling entertainment from Lincolnshire Chef Rachel Green and 'hook a sausage'.
The event is expecting to see between 7- 10,000 people through the Lincoln Castle gates.
Mark Brewer is a member of the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia, and the Organiser of the Lincoln Sausage Festival. He says it's been more difficult this year, but that the arrangements made are exciting:
"We have so much going on during the day; we've got cookery demonstrations from Rachel Green. We've got the cosmic sausages, one of the wackiest entertainment groups that you will ever see, and we've got juggling Jim there, walking round entertaining the crowds. We've got Earthbound Misfits, doing circus skill workshops for everyone and, no Lincoln Sausage Festival would be complete without Mr and Mrs, sausage and their new addition this year, chipolata.
"It is just a brilliant day, and it's not been easy, getting this year's put together with certain challenges, like a couple of stall holders that can't be with us, that we've either lost through the pandemic, or that can't get staff to cover their stall on the day... this will be our 18th Lincoln sausage festival that we've organised, as the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia, and it's come a long way since its inception. I mean, we started. I think with eight stalls, all those years ago and It's become fairly synonymous with the with the county, and especially the city as well."
Mark also says it's been more about the mental straining of organising a big event like this, especially after their two-year gap.
"Not doing it for so long, you get out of the habit. I know it's only an annual event, but planning starts fairly early, and obviously through the lockdowns, we knew we weren't going to be doing it for two years almost. It's getting your mindset back into that planning and the strategic side of things and that's one of the difficulties.
"I think costs is probably the biggest issue we've had, everything's going up in price, and we've tried to keep the admission price down. But I think that's probably been the biggest thing is keeping a tight rein on the costs, which have spiralled a bit this year, but we're here."
The event begins at 10:00 am and concludes at 17:00 pm. It's expected that it will return for a 19th year in 2023.
