Heartbreak for Lincoln City after 2-1 defeat to Blackpool in play off final.
The result means the Imps miss out on promotion to the Championship.
It was a case of so near and yet so far.
It's been a great season for Lincoln City but after being promotion contenders for most of the campaign they miss out on Championship football.
They lost 2-1 to Blackpool at Wembley in the League One play off final.
That's despite getting off to a great start.
Lincoln scored after just 47 seconds.
The Imps launched an immediate attack.
Brennan Johnson crossed the ball in the area, Tom Hopper got a touch but it was Blackpool player Ollie Turton who turned into his own net.
Lincoln City 1 Blackpool 0
And on 25 minutes they almost made it 2 when Jorge Grant's strike hit the crossbar.
But just 9 minutes later Blackpool equalised through Kenny Dougal.
So when half time rolled around it was all square: Lincoln City 1 Blackpool 1
After the break the 2 sides tried to find a second.
However it was Blackpool who were to succeed and went in front on the 53rd minute with once again Kenny Dougal on target to make it 2-1.
Lincoln City rallied and looked to get back into the game.
But it was not to be and their dreams were shattered.
FINAL SCORE: Lincoln City 1 Blackpool 2
That means the Imps remain in league one next season.
It'll come as a disappointment to the almost 4 thousand Lincoln fans who made the trip to Wembley to cheer on their side.
They won't be too despondent though with many of them telling us to even make the final was amazing.
They told us "you have to have get the situation into perspective."
Just over 4 years ago Lincoln weren't even in the league but now they're very much established and who knows what might happen next.
After the game Manager Michael Appleton was, as you might expect, a little down.
He said "we'll try and get over the disappointment of not winning the game today, not playing
as well as I know we're capable of, However he continued "the club's come a long way, we
need to keep progressing, we need to keep getting ourselves in this type of position so we can compete in these kind of games"
So a good season ends in disappointment - but there's always next year.
Finally for the almost 4 thousand Imps fans who travelled down to Wembley it's still been a day to remember even if it wasn't the result they might have wanted.
We'll leave you with a video of some young Lincoln fans who certainly had a special day.
