Lincoln City have the advantage after the first leg of the league one semi final play off.

They beat Sunderland 2-0 at the LNER stadium in front of more than 3 thousand fans.

The Imps gave a good account of themselves and have a 2 goal cushion to take to Sunderland on Saturday.

The aggregate winner goes onto the final at Wembley to play for promotion to the Championship.

The match last night saw Lincoln City score through Tom Hopper 5 minutes into the second half.

Brennan Johnson secured the second in the 77th minute.

They held on to achieve the win and put themselves in a good position to progress in the tie.

Manager Michael Appleton was delighted with their performance although he's stressing they still have the second leg to come and need to battle to ensure they go through.

Elsewhere fans we spoke to we're also putting the situation in perspective but most were "over the moon" about the result so far.

Those who were able to attend were glad to be there.

Both Michael Appleton and his players agreed having those 3,000 plus in the stadium gave them the lift and helped them have a certain edge.

It'll be Sunderland's fans who'll be in the stands on Saturday.

However the Imps say they'll fight as hard as they can to protect their lead and set up the Wembley date.
