Melanie Onn has become the new MP for the Grimsby and Cleethorpes constituency.

She won with 15,336 votes.

The voter turnout was 42.22%.

It's not the first time Melanie has been the MP for the area. She previously represented Grimsby as an MP from 2015 until 2019.

The 2019 result for what was then known as the Grimsby constituency was one of the biggest stories of the election.

It meant the seat became Conservative for the first time in almost 100 years.

The seat was won by Lia Nici back in 2019.

However in this election Melanie Onn had over 7,000 more votes than the Conservative who was pushed into third place by the Reform UK candidate.

Here are the results for the constituency of Great Grimsby & Cleethorpes:

Melanie Onn (Labour) — 15,336

Oliver Freeston (Reform UK) — 10,533

Lia Nici (Conservative) — 8,269

Ed Fraser (Green) — 1,115

John Lawson (Lib Dem) — 1,036

Mark Gee (TUSC) — 222

Christopher Stephenson (Social Democratic Party) — 108

Speaking to us after being elected Melanie said:

"I think we've got a very clear plan that will make a difference in people's lives and I hope to bring that to bear very very quickly.

"People have put their faith in the plan and they think that the leadership that is on offer is something they are prepared to give their backing to in this election.

"So hopefully that will continue and we will be able to deliver the plan over the course of the first parliament."
