Iconic Cleethorpes bench to be rebuilt
The bench will be rescued after being washed away by the tide.
The now iconic Buck Beck Beach Bench is being rebuilt today after being washed away by the tide. A team of volunteers are set to restore the bench to its former glory in an attempt to salvage the many memories it has come to represent.
Mark Drant, one of the creators of the bench, said: "It's become part of the community now and it's gone absolutely massive now. There's plaques up, signs up, memories, people have proposed down there, so it's fantastic.
"Let's get it back up and hopefully we can get people down and be reunited again - it'll be amazing once it's back up again."
The bench has quickly become a local attraction and a favourite spot for people to visit on walks. Along with the proposals, it has hosted memorials to beloved pets that enjoyed the bench.
The tide has swept the bench away on several occasions, and most recently rose from the ashes in May 2023 after being destroyed in an arson attack.
Mark said: "It's been set on fire, the tide's washed it away, but let's build it back again, get it a bit stronger and probably inch it back a couple of feet."
