Gritty McGritface? Snowcially Distanced? Thaw Enforcement?

People in Northern Lincolnshire are being urged to get their thinking caps on, to come up with fun (and appropriate) names for the council's 10 gritting lorries.

With the nights drawing in and temperatures dropping, gritter drivers are getting ready to hit the roads of Lincolnshire to keep driving conditions safe in the cold.

To keep them smiling this year, their lorries will be given names suggested and voted on by the public.

The council says anything goes, as long as its original, fun and clean.

The research submarine 'Boaty McBoatface', which was given the name after the public voted to give an Antarctic research ship the title.

Cllr Rob Waltham, North Lincolnshire Council leader, said:

“Our gritter drivers work long, unsociable hours, often going out at a moment’s notice to keep our roads safe.

“We’re expecting a flurry of imaginative names for their lorries. Suggestions already include Gritty McGritface, Jake Gritenden, and Snowcially Distanced."

Many local councils have taken to giving their gritting fleets amusing names, after the public voted to name an Antarctic research ship 'Boaty McBoatface' five years ago.
