A Lincolnshire man's been telling us how he was abused by his mother, and left with permanent damage, living over 40 years with undiagnosed brain injuries.

Chris Simpson - from Grantham- has joined the board at a Lincolnshire charity to help other sufferers get the support they need.

He was taken into care at 9 months old with a skull fracture and 9 rib fractures.

He's now 53 and hoping his story will give other victims hope, after the charity Headway Lincolnshire helped him find guidance and understanding.

He says that he still has vivid memories of his childhood.

"Early memories for me are loveless, empty, violent and lots of confusion."

"Then I was hit from pillar to post also misunderstood - you talk about the 1970s and 80s and kids were seen and not heard."

"If you were heard you were hit - it was very very common."

"I can remember being frightened, very frightened."

"I was regularly hit and I can remember being hit."

"I remember going to nursery and I got this scar on the top of my head where I was hit with a spoon"

"I refused to take my medicine once and my mum just struck me over the head with a spoon."

"I remember this blackness coming over my eyes."
